Names of leather worker stamped into rear leather attachment on back. 1957.
Amazing vintage condition. No holes or tears.
The leather on the back bears the original initials of the first owner, along with the year of issue.
After nearly 70 years, the rucksack remains in worn but solid condition, showing signs of use that speak to its long history.
This backpack has truly stood the test of time and is ready to last many more years!
The special flax & nettle canvas used in many examples of vintage Swiss Army packs was developed during WWII when the country was surrounded on all sides.
Stinging nettle is a very high performance fibre with immense breaking strain beyond that of carbon fibre. The Flax provides waterproofing and suppleness to the material. Together they present a speckled appearance known as ‘salt and pepper’ or ‘salz & pfeffer’.
Perhaps the best military canvas rucksack of all time and certainly the most sought-after.
