RaRe 1880s 3" Paper Black Americana Jockey Drummond Tobacco Co Lithograph Tag. I personally removed this piece from an 1880s Victorian trade card album. The paper tag were a precursor to the tin litho variety and only used for a few years.
In the 1870s, the demand for tobacco in the United States was so great that hundreds of tobacco companies emerged nationwide. At the time, chewing and smoking tobacco were shipped in wooden crates labeled with company names. Since every producers tobacco looked the same once the containers were opened, some dishonest companies tried to deceive customers by putting their cheap tobacco into the crates of reputable companies with higher-quality products.
