This is a Beautiful Vintage Chinese Scholar Box also known as a Pillow Box. The exterior wrapped in leather and hand painted on five sides of Geishas and deer using gold gilt and ink. The box interior is lined with Chinese writing. It has original solid brass hardware and In very good condition.
There is accurate age wear for this period box. Likely made in 1960-1970. ACCORDING TO LEGEND, the Asian people placed their treasures in a pillow box which they slept on for safekeeping. If danger presented itself, they could flee quickly and keep their treasures from harm.
Scholars would keep their inks, scrolls and brushes in the box and also use it as a pillow. Measurements: 11×4×4 inches.
